jessica baked her traditional pooh bear cake for juno's first birthday and he got to be the first one to dig in. the cousins all waited paitently for juno to figure out how to take the first taste.

our week stay in jerome at tim's upstairs rental waiting for the shipment from mexico. it was hot and humid with no a/c. we were glad to get back to the mountains although it was fun to see all of our friends.

brandi came for bluegrass festival and stayed a day with us. so fun to have friends come visit!

our holiday was wonderful. i couldn't find a picture from george and lydia's visit being that i am horrible about taking pictures but i'm hoping you will have some to send me lyd :) it was wonderful to have you guys here. it was so great to go south for christmas! and to spend it with such wonderful people who spoiled us so much. i apologize mark for pretty much eating your whole cheesecake and enormous chocolate bar but who could resist? so now we are home and mateo is done puking, dean had a birthday and we actually got to have a date and eat some sushi. juno did come along but he actually let's us have a whole conversation without being interupted. we are back to our routine of going to the park with the other moms 4 or 5 days a week. and on monday dean leaves to a trade show and to mexico (driving-crazy) for three weeks. too long for me to be a single parent so my mom is coming to save the day and stay with me the whole time. once again you were greatly missed over the holidays candace. we danced to some tunes on new years in your memory and mark lit the lantern from jennifer that she gave to the two of you. please watch over us this new year. as for new year's resolutions, do people still have those? well i like to call it goals. mine are to learn how to make a successful sourdough starter and bread from scratch, to have more dates with dean, too be more patient and most of all to have lots of fun. i'm so thankful for all of my friends and family. LOVE YOU!

the day after we got home mateo got the stomach virus that it seems like everyones kids got. he slept on the couch and on dad for three days with the puke pan in arms reach. we thought he was better and went to dinner at brandi and rosy's house and just before we left he puked all over the floor. (the wood floor with beveled indents between each slat) sorry guys!

mateo's favorite thing at sea world was this padded pit for little kids to run around in. dean and i thought the coolest thing was all the underwater windows to see the sea life.

bratco (nickname for an extremely long and difficult to pronounce polish name), pierre and mark. bratco and pierre also stayed at marks house for a few days while we were there. they were very entertaining. they liked to call each other "bonehead" and i thought for sure that mateo would start calling people bonehead but then i realized he thought that was their names because after they left mateo asked "where bonehead?"

(tim and dean went to notre dame together) we came to manhattan beach in LA to spend a week before christmas and christmas morning with them. they were so nice to let us stay in their cute little house two blocks from the beach. they might have reconsidered if they knew that mateo was going to be up at 5am every morning. thanks guys!

mateo was fascinated by the clay lady's nursies and just kept staring at her

(people are no longer allowed on the coronados islands to preserve the habitat) this is the view from mark sullivan's (deans stepdad) front deck. we spent about a week at mark's house for christmas and new years. he lives at the very south end of tiajuana, mexico. yeaaaah! warm christmas, that's what i'm talkin' bout!

merry christmas! dean took this picture by setting up the camera on the back of the truck and then running before it snapped. pretty good eh!

at our friend phil's house (farmer phil as mateo calls him) two goats that will be milkable soon and some chickens, 24 of which we raised from babies for a few weeks in our warehouse. mateo loved to go out and look at them and shake the box while laughing.

mateo found it really funny that juno was poking his eye.

just after the birth. it was so wonderful to be at home. my midwife made it just half and hour before juno was born. it was a very intense labor. i went from a "cramp" to excrutiating pain in less than 20 min. it was crazy and amazing and we are so pleased with the whole experience. mateo even came out and got to see his brother be born. i love it all. a kindof funny part was that dean had just finished putting down new flooring that day and it got christened with my water breaking in a huge way and splashing 6 feet across the living room. we thought the company might want to use my story as an add for their flooring and how well it cleans up :)

the bubolo boys. notice the concerned look on mateo's face, he has had a hard time adjusting to sharing mommy and daddy and especially the nursies. but after a few days of constant tantrums and screaming in the middle of the night he is becoming a little more adjusted.

2 sweet boys! mateo likes to touch and pet and kiss juno, especially when he is sleeping.

we stayed with my sister carrie for a few weeks last time dean was in mexico. mateo loved hanging out with the cousins although poor joshie got bullied quite a bit. sorry josh. mateo was also obsessed with watching carrie nurse josh and the fact that her nursies had milk in them.

this summer the moms group i go to went once a week to this park when they irrigated and all the kids played in the water for a few hours. fun and refreshing.

mateo's favorite thing lately other than balls. every time we get in the car to go somewhere he starts asking to see a tractor.

yep. we finally cut off the beautiful curls, which had actually turned into dreads that looked like sheep's wool. i waited to long to brush his hair and than couldn't so we chopped it. this is the first round.

dean wasn't quite happy with my finished cut so he took the buzzer to mateo's head. he was a little freaked out about it but held pretty still as i fed him chocolates.

i got mateo a training toilet seat. he thinks it's great fun. if i ask him if he want's to go potty he will sit and go pee but no poops yet. no serious "training" yet.

last weekend we went camping at the verde hot springs about an hour from our house. we spent 2 nights. it was so nice to be out of the house for 2 days straight. we took dean's van so mateo and i slept inside on the futon and dean slept on another futon by the river. that's some comfy camping! this was our view from the van about 15 feet away. sweet spot. next time we have to stay longer.

it was about a 30 min. walk from our campsite to the hot pools. this one was about 98 and the one inside the rock wall about 102. we got there a little before sunset and were the only ones there. it was so relaxing. i wish i had one in my yard!

mateo this winter on his quad. he loves to get pushed around the driveway and to climb in and out of the seat.

we went to "out of africa" wildlife park just 20 min from our house. to see part of the park and animals you take a bus tour. mateo got to feed a giraffe a couple of crackers. he loved it and wasn't scared at all.

one of mateo's favorite things to do is hit any size ball with a stick. he also loves to kick and throw and he is getting very good.

these 2 pictures are a little older from last summer but i thought they were so cute i had to post them.

hiking in cochise. very beautiful, lots of cool plants and cacti.

dean on a climb called walk the line. kindof scarry looking. i have decided that after less than 10 climbs that my climbing career is over. after the second to last climb that i did when i had a bad repel and cried, i decided it's more stressful than fun. but dean is very careful so i don't have to worry to much about him.

dean on "walk the line climb". the rocks in cochise have a really neat flourescent green glow from the lichen on them.

mateo in full camping gear. he had so much fun playing in the dirt with sticks and rocks. he was way more entertained than he is at home with all of his toys. the first night was a little rough because we had so many covers on us that you could barely roll over and mateo woke up pissed off quite a few times, but the rest of the nights were much better. i'm so glad he likes camping since he has a lot more trips in his future!

another beautiful hike that we went on. we stopped at this spot for a while and found a bunch of cool rocks to take home with us.

mateo wanted nothing to do with santa until he saw the present coming and then he quit screaming although he still had a scowel on his face. the town of jerome actually buys a christmas present for every kid in town who signs up to see santa. pretty cool!

mateo is mezmerized every time uncle mark plays the guitar. he watches his every move.

mateo got lots of new books for christmas. i think he likes his books more than any toy that he has. especially the books with animals in them.

for new years we went to cochise national momument (past tuscon near the mexican border) with robert and sara. the weather was really cold before we got there but was really nice while we were there. still had to bundle up a little but you gotta love arizona. where else can you camp out for 5 days in the middle of winter.

this is volcano national park. we took a 2 hour hike, through the jungle down to this area which had steam coming out of all the cracks, them back up through the jungle. mateo did great in the pack too, extra bonus!

some of our friends from jerome are building a house in hawaii just a few hours from brandi so we drove down and stayed the night with them. we really liked this part of the island. much more remote and rasta style. we went to a really great hot spring right on the ocean.

halloween is brandi's favorite holiday so we took our costumes to hawaii and went trick or treating. mateo ended up being the only dressing up and since he isn't allowed to have sugar, we had to eat all of his candy :) he did a great job of charming everyone.

our friend brandi is working in hawaii for 2 months so we couldn't pass up the opportunity to go see her. she greeted us with these beautiful leys and took us to the ocean for a picnic.

we took a trip to cancun with my family and cousins. it was really fun to be together and swim every day. dean and i went in the ocean on a hobie cat. i thought that was really cool! fun without a motor!

jamie and alanna came to visit us this summer. mateo had fun carefully watching and learning from everything that alanna did. i feel lucky that they came to visit before alanna's sister arrives and the traveling comes to a halt!

this is the pool in brandi's backyard. candace drove all the way to jerome for mateo's 1st birthday even though she was feeling really sick from her chemo. we were so glad she came and we had a blast with her. i've been keeping up her saying to mateo; bamma bamma bamma. we miss you bamma!

this was our last hike in colorado before we moved to arizona. 5 miles, we were getting in shape for our grand canyon trip. in the background you can see some old indian dwellings, very common in the southwest.
